Tar Heels Beat Gonzaga 98-77
Ty Lawson’s toe wasn’t a problem, as he scored 19 points and dished out nine assists, leading the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels in a 98-77 rout of No. 4 seed Gonzaga in a South Region semifinal of the NCAA Tournament at FedEx Forum.
Lawson went 7-of-9 from the field overall, including three three-pointers, for the Tar Heels (31-4), who advanced to face second-seeded Oklahoma on Sunday for the opportunity to advance to the Final Four. The Sooners beat Syracuse, 84-71, earlier Friday.

MLB Teams Declining in Value
One-third of Major League Baseball teams declined in value over the past year while the New York Yankees’ worth increased 15 per cent to US$1.5 billion, according to the annual estimates by Forbes magazine.
The Washington Nationals took the biggest hit during the recession, down 12 per cent to US$406 million. The Atlanta Braves dropped 10 per cent and the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners each were off nine per cent, the magazine said Wednesday.
The decline by 10 teams was the most since 2004, Forbes said.

Cage Fighting to Debut in British Columbia
Love it or hate it, the controversial sport of professional cage fighting is set to debut in Penticton.
The International Fighting Championship is set for Aug. 15 in the Okanagan city.
Fighters locked in a cage use mixed martial arts and can punch, kick, knee, throw, choke and incapacitate an opponent using various arm bars and leg locks.

Goalkeeper Tim Wiese stopped three penalties in the shootout to lead Werder Bremen into the German Cup final past Hamburger SV on Wednesday.
After the two northern rivals played to 1-1 after extra time, with Hamburg down to 10 men, Bremen won the shootout 3-1.
